Assessment of two wind gust injection methods: Field velocity vs. split velocity method

چکیده
The objective of the present paper is to revisit two well-known wind gust injection methods in a consistent manner and assess their performance based on different application cases. These are field velocity method (FVM) split (SVM). For this purpose, both consistently derived pointing out link Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian formulation geometric conservation law. Furthermore, differences between FVM SVM worked advantages disadvantages compared. Based test case considering vertical hitting plate newly developed taking additionally horizontal into account, evaluated deviations resulting from disregard feedback effect assessed. results show that predictions by more pronounced for justifying introduction new case. main reason additional source term responsible surrounding flow itself nearly vanishes gust, whereas it has significant impact drag lift coefficients gust. correct viscous stress tensor relying total as done plays an important role, but found be negligible chosen Reynolds number study reveals capable delivering physical contradiction FVM. It paves way investigating further complex configurations (e.g., inclined gusts) practical applications towards coupled fluid–structure interaction simulations engineering structures impacted gusts.

Application of Soft Computing Methods in the Analysis of Velocity Field in Dividing Channel
The simplest water diversion method in irrigation systems is using intakes. Measuring the mean velocity is one of the essential hydraulic parameters in increasing the efficiency of the intake. In this study, the mean velocity was predicted for different width ratios of an intake using ANN-MLP neural network model. In order to do that, the flow field within a 90-degree intake was first simulated...
متن کاملA simple method to estimate threshold friction velocity of wind erosion in the field
[1] This study provides a fast and easy‐to‐apply method to estimate threshold friction velocity (TFV) of wind erosion in the field. Wind tunnel experiments and a variety of ground measurements including air gun, pocket penetrometer, torvane, and roughness chain were conducted in Moab, Utah and cross‐validated in the Mojave Desert, California. Patterns between TFV and ground measurements were ex...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional airflow modeling underpredicts the wind velocity over dunes
We investigate the average turbulent wind field over a barchan dune by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics. We find that the fractional speed-up ratio of the wind velocity over the three-dimensional barchan shape differs from the one obtained from two-dimensional calculations of the airflow over the longitudinal cut along the dune's symmetry axis - that is, over the equivalent transverse dune...
متن کاملThe Local Velocity Field
We only see a small fraction of the matter in the universe, but the rest gives itself away by the impact of its gravity. The distortions from pure Hubble flow (or peculiar velocities) that this matter creates have the potential to be a powerful cosmological tool, but are also a nuisance for extragalactic astronomers who wish to use redshifts to estimate distances to local galaxies. We provide a...
متن کاملDescription and Simulation of Gust Front Wind Field
An efficient model for simulating gust front wind field is proposed based on the time-frequency description of the wind field. Traditionally, transient or non-stationary random processes are simulated to account for amplitude modulations invoking envelop processes to shape these modulations. In this study, a time-frequency based scheme is introduced to account for both modulations in amplitude ...
